On this episode, we chat with Indigenous scholar and lawyer, Dr. Beverly Jacobs about the Murdered and Missing Women's movement and her work as the Indigenous Human Rights Monitor for the Survivors' Secretariat of the Mohawk Institute. She also shares about her early work as a lawyer advocating for Indigenous women against the discriminatory laws embedded in the Indian Act. She also talks about the differences between colonial law (Rights) and Haudenosaunee law (Responsibilities).
Dr. Beverly Jacobs is a lawyer and Indigenous scholar from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory.  She is from the Mohawk nation and the bear clan.  On this episode, she shares about her work with the Survivors' Secretariat, a Survivor-led, trauma-informed community organization uncovering, documenting and sharing the truth about the Mohawk Institute.
